It is close to dinner and I want to help, but first there is good news.

Because I am new to this country and I am not born here, it is hard for me to be here. Also I am not old for to be here alone, and I need a legal guardian to help me be here. Nathan just said to me that the people who do this thing said to him he and Doctor Moira are my legal guardian now, for being here in America.

I am very happy for this. I am liking this school very much, and I have many friends. And now I have legal guardian to help me. Nathan and Doctor Moira are very good people, and I am glad they like to help me. Nathan said now I can go to Scott-Land for Crismass and I am happy for that too.

Thank you for everybody. You are very nice and I am happy to know you. Now I am to help with dinner. I hope there is lofapillars again. They are cute.

So you got your visa immigrant... green card thingy? Or you've got the people setup that you need to get it soon?

Immigration confuses me. Course, I can't actually leave the country until I'm 18, so I don't have to worry about it yet.

Oh - Scott-land is Mr. Summers' office. (land of Scott) Scotland is where Doc Moira's from. (land of Scots, which is the people there.)

Well, the process isn't quite finished, but it's getting there. This is where the Professor's connections and the fact that the head of Elpis used to work for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees came in real handy. We even got the asylum interview waived because Sooraya's only 14.

But the next week I am going to have my fingers printed. It is part of staying here too.

And why do they not call it Scotsland if that is the people that live there?

Nate? Can you use your lawyer-fu to see if my fingerprints changed? I mean, would they have? When I got printed, I didn't have claws and my hands were way smaller.

And I think they call it Scotland and not Scotsland because English is a silly language that has weird rules sometimes.

I could probably look into getting a copy of your file, yeah. I would imagine that the answer's yes, though, that your fingerprints would be different.

Why not make it better than ten bucks? If you're right, I handle dinner for one evening. If I'm right, you babysit the munchkin one evening so that Moira and I can go out and have something approximating a social life.

Guess who had to be interviewed in her place, though? And the very nice immigration officer smacked me upside the head and told me to remember in future that proper channels were good things.

Joel knew the immigration officer, too (he sat in on the interview to make sure I didn't put my foot in my mouth on-record). And after, the two of them had this lovely little conversation about what a trial it must be for him to have to house-train me.

Why is it that people who don't know me so often have me pegged after one conversation with me? It's rather distressing.
